Preheat the oven to 400°F
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it
Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels
Place the cod on the baking sheet
Brush or drizzle the cod with olive oil or melted butter
Season with salt and pepper
Add optional seasonings such as garlic, paprika, lemon juice, or herbs
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, depending on thickness
Check that the cod flakes easily with a fork and is opaque throughout
Remove from the oven
Serve immediately
