Two authors: use both last names joined by an ampersand in parentheses, or “and” in narrative text
Three or more authors: use the first author’s last name followed by “et al.”
In-text citation format for two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2020)
In-text citation format for three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2020)
First citation and all later citations for three or more authors: use “et al.”
Reference list for up to 20 authors: list all authors’ names
Reference list for more than 20 authors: list the first 19 authors, then an ellipsis, then the final author
Order authors in the reference list exactly as they appear in the source
Use an ampersand before the final author name in the reference list
Separate author names with commas in the reference list
For group authors, use the full organization name as the author
If no author is listed, move the title to the author position
