Turn on Bluetooth on your iPad: Settings → Bluetooth → On
Turn on the iPad’s Wi‑Fi (if prompted)
Remove the Apple Pencil from its cap (if applicable)
For Apple Pencil (1st gen): Plug the Lightning connector into the iPad’s Lightning port
For Apple Pencil (2nd gen): Attach it magnetically to the side of the iPad
Confirm the pairing prompt on the iPad
Tap Pair
Wait for the connection to complete
Test the Apple Pencil on the iPad’s screen to confirm it works
If pairing fails: Charge the Pencil, restart the iPad, and try again
If it still fails: Settings → Bluetooth → (i) next to Apple Pencil (if shown) → Forget This Device, then re-pair
