Hand-pull chickweed when soil is moist, removing the roots
Remove plants before they set seed
Apply a 2–4 inch layer of mulch in garden beds
Keep turf dense with proper mowing, watering, and fertilizing
Overseed thin lawn areas to crowd out chickweed
Improve drainage in wet areas
Use landscape fabric or cardboard under mulch for persistent patches
Apply a pre-emergent herbicide in early fall or late winter if appropriate
Spot-treat with a post-emergent herbicide labeled for chickweed
Repeat control efforts regularly until the seed bank is reduced
