How to Name Acid?

Identify whether the acid is binary or oxyacid

For binary acids, use the prefix hydro-

For binary acids, use the root name of the nonmetal

For binary acids, add the suffix -ic acid

For oxyacids, use the polyatomic ion name as the base

For oxyacids ending in -ate, change the ending to -ic acid

For oxyacids ending in -ite, change the ending to -ous acid

Keep the prefix if the ion name includes one

Do not use hydro- for oxyacids

Write the acid name as a separate word followed by acid
