Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the power off slider appears
Drag the slider to the right
Wait for the screen to go black
If the iPod is frozen, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together until it turns off
Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears or the screen goes black
