Remove the avocado pit from the fruit and rinse off all flesh
Gently peel off the brown outer skin if it comes off easily
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom end submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with bright, indirect light
Keep the bottom of the seed in contact with water
Change the water every 2 to 3 days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge from the top
Move the sprouted seed into soil when roots are several inches long
Plant it in a pot with the top half of the seed above the soil
Water the soil regularly and keep it in bright, indirect light
