Wash your hands and the area around the sliver
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
Soak the area in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes
Dry the skin
Use tweezers to grasp the exposed end of the sliver and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the sliver is under the skin, gently lift the skin with the sterilized needle to expose the tip
Remove the sliver with tweezers once the tip is visible
Wash the area again with soap and water
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Seek medical help if the sliver is deep, large, near the eye, or cannot be removed easily
