There is no specific cure for hand, foot, and mouth disease
Rest as much as possible
Drink plenty of fluids
Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever or pain, if appropriate
Avoid aspirin in children
Eat soft, bland foods if mouth sores are painful
Use cold foods or drinks to soothe mouth pain
Keep the mouth clean with gentle rinsing
Wash hands often
Avoid close contact with others until fever is gone and blisters have dried
Keep children home from school or daycare while contagious
Seek medical care if symptoms are severe
Seek medical care if there are signs of dehydration
Seek medical care if breathing problems occur
Seek medical care if symptoms worsen or do not improve
