Attach a sloped, waterproof roof
Cover openings with hardware cloth, not chicken wire
Add nesting boxes inside the coop
Install roosting bars higher than the nesting boxes
Place easy-to-clean flooring material inside
Add bedding such as pine shavings or straw
Provide feeders and waterers inside or just outside the coop
Build an attached run with secure fencing and a covered top
Use locks or latches that predators cannot open
Check for gaps, sharp edges, and weak spots
Paint or seal exterior wood with poultry-safe products
Clean the coop regularly and replace bedding as needed
