2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
1 sugar cube or 1/2 tsp simple syrup
2 to 3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 teaspoon water
Ice
Orange peel
Maraschino cherry, optional
Place the sugar cube in an old fashioned glass
Add bitters and water
Muddle until the sugar dissolves
Add whiskey
Fill the glass with ice
Stir gently
Express the orange peel over the drink
Garnish with the orange peel
Add a cherry, if desired
