Open the Instagram app or go to Instagram.com
Log in to your account
Go to your profile
Tap/click the menu (three lines)
Select Settings and privacy
Tap/click Account Center
Select Personal details
Choose Account ownership and control
Select Deactivation or deletion
Choose Deactivate account
Select a reason for deactivating
Re-enter your password when prompted
Tap/click Deactivate
Confirm the deactivation
To reactivate: log back in to your Instagram account using your username and password
To permanently delete instead: follow Settings and privacy > Account Center > Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion > Delete account, then confirm with password and follow prompts
