How To Calculate Magnitude?

For a 2D vector ((x, y)), use (sqrt{x^2 + y^2})

For a 3D vector ((x, y, z)), use (sqrt{x^2 + y^2 + z^2})

For a vector (vec{v} = langle a, b rangle), use (|vec{v}| = sqrt{a^2 + b^2})

For a vector (vec{v} = langle a, b, c rangle), use (|vec{v}| = sqrt{a^2 + b^2 + c^2})

Square each component

Add the squared values

Take the square root of the sum

For a scalar magnitude, use the absolute value (|x|)

For displacement, use (sqrt{(Delta x)^2 + (Delta y)^2})

For distance in 3D, use (sqrt{(Delta x)^2 + (Delta y)^2 + (Delta z)^2})
