Find the OBD-II port under the dashboard near the steering column
Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine
Plug in an OBD-II scanner
Read the trouble codes on the scanner display
Write down all stored and pending codes
Look up the codes in a repair code chart or manual
Check for any additional manufacturer-specific codes
Clear the codes only after repairs are completed
Recheck for codes after driving the vehicle again
