How To Divide Exponents?

Subtract the exponents when the bases are the same: (a^m div a^n = a^{m-n})

Keep the base the same

If there is a coefficient, divide the coefficients separately

If the exponents are equal, the result is 1

If the exponent becomes negative, rewrite it as a fraction with a positive exponent

For powers in parentheses, divide each factor using exponent rules

For different bases, simplify only if they can be rewritten with the same base

Example: (x^7 div x^3 = x^4)

Example: (5x^6 div 5x^2 = x^4)

Example: (a^2 div a^5 = a^{-3} = frac{1}{a^3})
