Start with a square sheet of paper
Fold the paper in half horizontally
Unfold it
Fold the paper in half vertically
Unfold it
Cut or fold the paper into two equal rectangles if needed for a two-piece star
Take one rectangle and fold it lengthwise into a long strip
Fold the strip in half
Fold each end diagonally inward to form two small triangles
Repeat with the second rectangle
Place the two folded strips in a cross shape
Tuck the triangles of one strip into the pockets of the other
Flip and tuck the remaining ends together
Tighten the folds so the center locks
Flatten the star shape
Adjust the points so they are even
