Turn off the power at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the old fixture if one is present
Support the fixture while disconnecting the wires
Note the wire connections before removing them
Disconnect the wires and remove the mounting hardware
Check that the electrical box is secure and rated for the fixture weight
Assemble the new light fixture according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Attach the mounting bracket to the electrical box
Connect the fixture wires to the house wires
Connect black to black, white to white, and green or bare copper to ground
Secure each wire connection with wire nuts
Tuck the wires neatly into the electrical box
Attach the fixture to the mounting bracket
Install the bulbs if required
Attach any shades, covers, or decorative parts
Restore power at the breaker
Test the light fixture
Tighten any loose parts if needed
