Collect ripe cherries and remove the pits
Clean all fruit flesh off the pits
Dry the pits for a few days
Crack the hard outer shell carefully if desired
Place the seeds in a damp paper towel or moist peat moss
Seal them in a plastic bag
Refrigerate them for 8 to 12 weeks for cold stratification
Check periodically to keep them moist
Plant the seeds in small pots with well-draining soil
Sow each seed about 1 inch deep
Water lightly and keep the soil moist, not soggy
Place the pots in a warm, bright location
Wait for germination
Transplant seedlings to larger pots when they outgrow the first container
Harden off the young tree before moving it outdoors
Plant in full sun with well-drained soil
Water regularly during the first growing season
Protect the young tree from pests, frost, and animals
Prune as needed to shape the tree
Be patient until the tree matures and bears fruit
