How To Install Drywall?

Measure the walls and ceiling

Buy drywall sheets, screws, joint tape, joint compound, corner bead, and sanding supplies

Turn off power to the work area

Remove old wall covering if needed

Check framing for straightness and repair any damage

Mark stud locations on the floor and ceiling

Cut drywall sheets to size

Hang ceiling drywall first if applicable

Hang wall drywall with edges centered on studs

Fasten drywall with screws every 8 to 12 inches

Keep screw heads slightly below the surface without breaking the paper

Stagger seams between rows

Cut openings for outlets, switches, and fixtures

Install corner bead on outside corners

Apply joint tape to seams

Cover tape and screw holes with joint compound

Let compound dry completely

Apply additional thin coats of compound

Sand between coats as needed

Sand the final coat smooth

Remove dust

Prime the drywall

Paint or finish the surface
