How To Install Kitchen Cabinets?

Measure the kitchen and mark cabinet locations on the walls

Find and mark wall studs

Locate and mark the highest point of the floor

Draw a level reference line for the base cabinets

Remove cabinet doors and drawers if needed

Assemble the cabinets if they are not preassembled

Start with the upper cabinets if installing both upper and base cabinets

Hold the first cabinet in place and check for level and plumb

Fasten the cabinet to the wall studs with screws

Install adjacent cabinets and clamp them together

Check alignment, level, and plumb as you go

Secure all cabinets to each other with screws

Install base cabinets on the level reference line

Use shims under base cabinets to level them

Fasten base cabinets to wall studs and to each other

Cut openings for plumbing, electrical, and appliances as needed

Install filler strips, end panels, and trim pieces

Reinstall doors and drawers

Install countertops after the cabinets are secured

Check all hardware and make final adjustments
