Right-click the layer mask in the Layers panel
Select Add Layer Mask if the layer does not already have one
Click the layer mask thumbnail to make it active
Go to Filters
Choose Blur
Select Gaussian Blur
Adjust the blur radius
Click OK
If needed, use the Blur/Sharpen tool on the mask for local softening
If needed, duplicate the mask first so you can keep an unblurred copy
