How To Clean Retainers?

Wash your hands with soap and water.

Rinse the retainer under lukewarm water to remove saliva and debris.

Use a soft toothbrush or retainer brush to gently brush the retainer.

Use mild, clear liquid soap or a non-abrasive denture/retainer cleaner; avoid toothpaste.

Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water after cleaning.

For soaking, use retainer-cleaning solution (dentures/retainers) or a dentist-recommended cleaner.

Soak as directed on the cleaner label (commonly 15–30 minutes for tablets/solutions).

Do not use hot water or boiling water.

Do not soak in bleach, harsh household cleaners, or alcohol-based solutions unless specifically directed by your orthodontist.

If your orthodontist recommends it, soak removable retainers in a mixture of water and white vinegar (typically 1:1 water to vinegar) for a short period, then rinse well.

For metal (wire) retainers, avoid soaking for long periods unless approved; gently brush with mild soap and rinse.

Dry the retainer with a clean tissue or let it air-dry fully before storing.

Store the retainer in its case when not in use.

Keep the case clean and dry; wipe it with mild soap and water if needed.

Clean your retainer daily or at least every time you brush your teeth.

If the retainer has heavy buildup, consult your orthodontist or dentist for safe deep-cleaning steps.
