Burp the baby during and after feeds
Feed smaller amounts more frequently
Ensure a proper latch and slower feeding to reduce swallowed air
Keep the baby upright during feeds and for 10–20 minutes after feeding
Take breaks during bottle-feeding to burp
If bottle-feeding, use the right nipple flow and keep the bottle angle to minimize air intake
Check for overfeeding or feeding too fast
Use gentle soothing measures like rocking or holding upright
Offer a pacifier if the baby uses one and is calm
Avoid frequent handling during an active hiccup episode
Keep the baby comfortable and avoid overheating or sudden temperature changes
Monitor wet diapers, feeding interest, and overall comfort
Contact a pediatrician urgently if hiccups persist nonstop for more than 24 hours
Contact a pediatrician if hiccups are accompanied by vomiting (especially green or forceful), breathing trouble, blue color, fever, poor feeding, or unusual sleepiness
Seek urgent care if the baby is struggling to breathe or appears in distress
