Burp the baby gently during and after feeding
Pause feeding to let the baby rest
Keep the baby upright for 20 to 30 minutes after feeding
Offer a small amount of breast milk or formula if appropriate
Check that the baby is not swallowing too much air during feeds
Use a slower-flow nipple if bottle-feeding
Feed smaller amounts more often
Let the hiccups pass on their own
Avoid overfeeding
Make sure the baby is calm and relaxed before feeding
Do not give water, sugar, or home remedies unless advised by a doctor
Contact a pediatrician if hiccups are frequent, prolonged, or seem to bother the baby
