Use a portable carbon monoxide detector to check specific areas if needed
Have fuel-burning appliances inspected and serviced regularly
Check for signs of malfunction in furnaces, stoves, fireplaces, water heaters, and generators
Never use grills, generators, or fuel-burning equipment indoors or in enclosed spaces
If an alarm sounds, leave the area immediately and call emergency services or the gas company from outside
If you suspect exposure, seek fresh air right away and get medical help
