Wash your hands and the area with soap and water
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
If the splinter tip is visible, grasp it with tweezers and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is just under the skin, gently lift the skin with the sterilized needle to expose the tip
Use tweezers to remove the exposed splinter
If the splinter is shallow, apply adhesive tape and peel it off to help lift it out
Rinse the area with clean water after removal
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage if needed
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, near the eye, under a fingernail, or cannot be removed easily
Seek medical help if there is redness, swelling, pus, increasing pain, or fever
