Right-click the desktop item and select Delete if it is only a shortcut
If it is a shortcut, choose Remove from desktop or Delete shortcut
Open File Explorer and move the actual file or folder to another location
Drag the item from the desktop into a folder on your PC
Cut and paste the item to Documents, Pictures, Downloads, or another folder
Use OneDrive or an external drive to store the file instead of the desktop
Hide desktop icons by right-clicking the desktop, selecting View, and unchecking Show desktop icons
Remove desktop widgets by right-clicking the widget and selecting Remove
Unpin unwanted apps from the taskbar by right-clicking the icon and selecting Unpin from taskbar
Unpin unwanted apps from the Start menu by right-clicking and selecting Unpin from Start
If the desktop item is a system shortcut, open Settings, then Personalization, then Themes, then Desktop icon settings, and uncheck the icons you do not want
If the desktop item is a file you need, create a new folder and move it there
If you want a cleaner desktop, sort items into folders and keep only shortcuts on the desktop
If the item keeps returning, check startup apps and disable the program that recreates it
If the item is in the Recycle Bin, empty the Recycle Bin only after confirming you do not need it
