Insert or check the batteries
Turn on the stud finder
Select the correct mode if available
Calibrate the stud finder on an empty section of wall
Place the stud finder flat against the wall
Move it slowly across the wall
Watch for the indicator light, sound, or display signal
Mark the wall where the stud edge is detected
Scan from the opposite direction to find the other edge
Mark the center point between the two edges
Confirm the stud location by rescanning
Avoid scanning over outlets, switches, or metal objects
Use the marked center point for drilling or nailing
Turn off the stud finder after use
