Move away from the area to avoid more stings
Check for signs of a severe allergic reaction
Call emergency services immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or collapse
Remove the stinger if it is present
Wash the sting site with soap and water
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Keep the affected area elevated if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Use an antihistamine for itching or swelling if appropriate
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion to reduce itching
Avoid scratching the sting site
Monitor for worsening swelling, redness, pus, or fever
Seek medical care if symptoms are severe or do not improve
Use an epinephrine auto-injector if prescribed for allergic reactions
