How To Calculate Operating Profit?

Start with total revenue

Subtract cost of goods sold

Subtract operating expenses

Exclude interest expense

Exclude taxes

Exclude non-operating income

Use the formula: Operating Profit = Revenue – Cost of Goods Sold – Operating Expenses

Include items such as wages, rent, utilities, and depreciation in operating expenses

The result is operating profit, also called operating income or EBIT
