Dissolve 2 g potassium iodide in about 100 mL distilled water
Add 1 g iodine crystals to the potassium iodide solution
Stir until the iodine dissolves completely
Add distilled water to make the total volume 100 mL
Store the solution in a dark bottle
Label the bottle clearly as iodine solution
Use a dropper to add a few drops to the starch sample for the test
