Collect seeds from a ripe apple
Remove all fruit flesh from the seeds
Rinse the seeds with water
Dry the seeds briefly on a paper towel
Place seeds in a damp paper towel
Put the towel in a sealed plastic bag
Refrigerate the bag for 6 to 8 weeks
Check occasionally to keep the towel slightly moist
Remove seeds after they sprout
Fill small pots with seed-starting soil
Plant each sprouted seed about 1/2 inch deep
Water the soil lightly
Place pots in a warm, bright location
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Wait for seedlings to emerge
Move seedlings to larger pots when needed
Harden off seedlings before outdoor planting
Plant outdoors in well-drained soil with full sun
Space trees far enough apart for mature growth
Water regularly during the first growing season
Protect young trees from pests and frost
