Disconnect the dryer from the existing vent, if present
Cut the vent opening in the wall or use an existing exterior vent opening
Install the exterior vent hood with a backdraft damper
Seal around the exterior vent hood with exterior-grade caulk
Attach the vent duct to the dryer exhaust outlet
Secure the duct with a metal clamp
Run the duct to the exterior vent hood with minimal bends
Keep the duct as short and straight as possible
Use rigid or semi-rigid metal ducting
Avoid plastic or foil accordion ducting
Connect the duct to the exterior vent hood
Secure all joints with metal clamps
Seal joints with foil tape, not screws through the duct
Ensure the duct does not sag or kink
Keep the vent line accessible for cleaning
Push the dryer back into place without crushing the duct
Restore power to the dryer
Test the dryer for proper airflow and exhaust outside
Inspect for air leaks and correct any loose connections
Clean the vent regularly
