Choose the correct combination lock type (3-number, 4-number, or keyed combination).
Locate the dial and the reset/lock mechanism (often marked with a small arrow or reset button).
If the lock has a factory default combination, set it to your chosen combination before use.
To open with an existing combination:
Rotate the dial to the first number.
Continue rotating to the second number.
Continue rotating to the third number (and fourth, if applicable).
Stop at the final number and pull up/down or turn the shackle release lever (depending on the lock design).
If the lock does not open:
Recheck the number sequence and accuracy of stopping points.
Try turning past the final number slightly, then back to it, if the lock requires exact alignment.
Ensure you have the correct dial direction (some locks are sensitive to approach direction).
To set or change the combination (if the lock supports it):
Open the lock using the current combination.
Move the reset switch/button to the “set” position (often inside the shackle area).
Set the dial(s) to your new combination numbers.
Return the reset switch/button to the “lock” or “run” position.
Test the new combination before closing or leaving the lock unattended.
If the lock is resettable but you forgot the combination:
Check for a reset procedure in the manufacturer instructions.
If no reset is possible, contact the manufacturer or use the lock’s authorized service method.
