Park on a flat, safe area away from traffic
Put the vehicle in park or gear and set the parking brake
Put on gloves if available
Lay the chains out and untangle them
Check that the chains are the correct size for your tires
Position the chains on the drive tires
Drape the chains evenly over the top of the tire
Pull the chains down behind and in front of the tire
Connect the inner fastener first
Connect the outer fastener next
Tighten the chains according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Move the vehicle forward a short distance
Recheck the fit and adjust the chains
Secure any loose ends or tensioners
Repeat for the other drive tire if needed
Drive slowly and stop to inspect after a short distance
Retighten if necessary before continuing
