Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a baking dish
Pat chicken breasts dry
Season both sides with salt and black pepper
Add desired seasonings (optional): garlic powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, chili powder, or lemon zest
Optional: drizzle with olive oil or brush with melted butter
Place chicken breasts on the baking sheet with space between them
Bake for 18–25 minutes, depending on thickness
Check doneness with an instant-read thermometer:
Remove when internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C)
Rest for 5 minutes before slicing or serving
Optional: broil 1–3 minutes at the end for browning if desired
