Verify the vehicle uses the correct refrigerant type specified on the under-hood label
Wear safety glasses and gloves
Inspect the AC system for visible leaks or damage before adding refrigerant
Start the engine and turn the AC to maximum cold with the fan on high
Open the hood and locate the low-pressure service port
Attach the refrigerant recharge hose or gauge to the low-pressure port only
Read the pressure gauge to confirm the system is low
Shake the refrigerant can if required by the product instructions
Hold the can upright unless the product label says otherwise
Open the valve and add refrigerant slowly into the low-pressure side
Monitor the gauge while charging to avoid overfilling
Stop adding refrigerant when the pressure reaches the recommended range
Disconnect the hose from the service port
Check that the AC is blowing cold air
Replace the service port cap securely
Have the system inspected by a professional if cooling is still poor or if leaks are present
