Gather a screwdriver
Look for visible screws on the knob or plate
Remove the screws
Pull off the knob or handle
Remove the trim plate if present
Find the latch mechanism on the door edge
Remove the latch screws
Pull the latch out of the door
If there are hidden screws, press the release slot or use a small tool to access them
Remove any remaining hardware from both sides of the door
