Turn off the power to the water heater at the breaker
Turn off the gas supply if it is a gas water heater
Wait a few minutes for the unit to cool down
Locate the reset button on the thermostat or control panel
Press and hold the reset button until it clicks
Release the button
Restore power or gas supply
Check whether the water heater starts operating normally
If it trips again, turn it off and contact a licensed technician
