How To Survive In Nuclear Attack?

Get inside the nearest substantial building immediately

Move to the basement or the center of the building

Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior walls

If outside, get behind the nearest solid object and then into shelter as fast as possible

If in a vehicle, stop and get into a building; do not stay in the car

Remove outer clothing if exposed to fallout

Bag contaminated clothing and seal it away from people

Wash exposed skin and hair with soap and water

Do not use conditioner on hair

Cover your nose and mouth with a cloth if dust is present

Shut windows, doors, vents, and fireplace dampers

Turn off fans, air conditioners, and heating systems that bring in outside air

Stay inside for at least 24 hours unless authorities say otherwise

Listen to official emergency alerts and follow instructions

Use battery-powered or hand-crank radios if communications fail

Keep food and water stored indoors and sealed

Drink bottled water or covered stored water only

Avoid eating food exposed to fallout

Stay in the shelter area as long as possible

Move to a better shelter only if instructed by authorities

If you see a bright flash, drop and cover immediately

Protect your eyes and skin from the flash

Keep a first aid kit, flashlight, radio, batteries, water, and nonperishable food ready
