Call emergency services immediately
Expose the wound
Place the tourniquet 2 to 3 inches above the bleeding site
Do not place it over a joint
Tighten the tourniquet until the bleeding stops
Secure the tourniquet in place
Note the time the tourniquet was applied
Do not remove the tourniquet
Get the person to emergency care as soon as possible
