Install the recovery tool on a different drive than the one where the files were deleted
Scan the original drive for deleted files
Recover the documents to a different location, not the same drive
Check for shadow copies or previous versions on Windows
Look in temporary folders or autosave locations for app-specific recovery copies

Avoid saving new files to the affected drive until recovery is complete
