Wash the area immediately with soap and cool water
Rinse under running water for several minutes
Wash clothing, shoes, tools, and gloves that may have urushiol on them
Clean under fingernails thoroughly
Use cool compresses for 15 to 20 minutes at a time
Take an oatmeal bath or use colloidal oatmeal
Apply calamine lotion
Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream
Use a baking soda paste on itchy areas
Take an oral antihistamine for itching
Avoid scratching
Keep the rash clean and dry
Wear loose, breathable clothing
Seek medical care if the rash is severe, on the face or genitals, widespread, infected, or causing trouble breathing
Ask a doctor about prescription steroid treatment if needed
