Measure the existing window opening and confirm the replacement window size

Remove the old window sash, stops, and trim as needed

Inspect the opening for rot, damage, or debris

Open the window fully or to the desired position

Clean the window frame and glass

Apply flashing tape or flashing membrane around the rough opening

Wear gloves and safety glasses

Clear the area of people and pets

Lay down a tarp or drop cloth

Measure the insulated glass unit (IGU) accurately

Remove the window sash or access the damaged pane

Take out the glazing stops, beads, or retaining strips
