Power off the PC
Unplug the power cable
Press the power button for a few seconds to discharge residual power
Open the PC case
Ground yourself to avoid static discharge
Locate an available SSD mounting spot
Mount the SSD in the drive bay or tray
Secure the SSD with screws or tool-less clips
Connect a SATA data cable to the SSD if it is a SATA SSD
Connect the other end of the SATA data cable to a motherboard SATA port
Connect a SATA power cable from the power supply to the SSD if it is a SATA SSD
Install the SSD in an M.2 slot if it is an M.2 SSD
Secure the M.2 SSD with the mounting screw
Close the PC case
Reconnect the power cable
Power on the PC
Enter BIOS or UEFI if needed to confirm the SSD is detected
Open Disk Management in the operating system
Initialize the SSD if prompted
Create a new volume or partition
Format the SSD
Assign a drive letter
Verify the SSD is accessible in File Explorer or the file manager
