How To Back Up MacBook?

Connect an external drive (Time Machine–compatible)

Open System Settings

Go to General → Time Machine

Select “Select Disk…”

Choose the external drive

Turn on Time Machine

If prompted, confirm disk format and encryption

Let the first backup complete (it may take a while)

Verify backups in Time Machine by opening Time Machine and checking recent entries

Create a manual backup (optional)

Open Time Machine

Choose “Back Up Now”

Back up using Finder (manual copy)

Connect an external drive or storage

Open Finder

Select your home folder or specific folders (Documents, Desktop, Pictures, etc.)

Drag the selected folders to the external drive

Ensure the copy finishes successfully

Back up using iCloud (optional)

Open System Settings

Go to Apple ID → iCloud

Enable iCloud for supported data types (e.g., Photos, iCloud Drive, Contacts, Calendars)

Confirm iCloud Drive is enabled if you want file syncing

Back up using a bootable clone (advanced, optional)

Install a cloning app (e.g., Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!)

Connect a larger external drive

Create a clone of your internal drive

Confirm the clone completes and is bootable (optional test by restarting and selecting the external disk in Startup Disk)

Back up from macOS Recovery (optional full-system restore prep)

Ensure Time Machine is set up and working

Keep access to macOS installer/recovery options for reinstalling if needed
