Earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent nursing degree
Obtain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Gain experience in an intensive care unit (ICU), usually 1 to 2 years or more
Complete any required prerequisite science courses
Apply to an accredited nurse anesthesia doctoral program
Earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP)
Complete the nurse anesthesia program, including classroom and clinical training
Pass the National Certification Examination (NCE) to become a CRNA
Obtain state licensure and any required practice credentials
Maintain certification through continuing education and recertification requirements
