Trim the quilt edges so they are even
Measure the quilt perimeter
Cut binding strips on the bias or straight grain
Join the strips end to end to make one long binding
Press the binding in half lengthwise, wrong sides together
Start attaching the binding to the front of the quilt, leaving a tail unsewn
Align raw edges of the binding with the quilt edge
Sew the binding to the quilt with a consistent seam allowance
Miter the corners by folding the binding at each corner
Continue sewing around the quilt, stopping before the starting point
Join the two binding ends together
Finish sewing the last section of binding to the quilt
Fold the binding to the back of the quilt
Secure the binding to the back by hand stitching or machine stitching
Check that corners are neat and all edges are fully covered
Press the finished binding flat
