How To Block Knitting?

Wash or soak the finished knitting if the yarn fiber allows it

Gently squeeze out excess water without wringing

Roll the item in a clean towel and press to remove more moisture

Lay the piece flat on a blocking mat, towels, or a clean surface

Shape the knitting to the desired measurements and edges

Pin the item in place if needed, using rustproof blocking pins or wires

For lace or openwork, stretch evenly to open the pattern

For stockinette or garments, smooth to the correct dimensions without over-stretching

Leave the item to dry completely before unpinning

Use steam blocking only if suitable for the yarn and care instructions

Use wet blocking for wool and other fibers that respond well to soaking

Use spray blocking for delicate items or when only light shaping is needed

Re-block the item after washing if necessary
