Remove any wilted outer leaves from the cabbage
Rinse the cabbage under cold water
Cut the cabbage into wedges or chop it into pieces
Bring a pot of water to a boil
Add salt to the water if desired
Place the cabbage into the boiling water
Boil until tender, about 5 to 10 minutes for chopped cabbage or 10 to 15 minutes for wedges
Drain the cabbage in a colander
Serve immediately or season as desired
